A small sample of the heart-racing adventures that are showcased by the Festival Films
Jan 7-10, Fernie, Cranbrook, Invermere –
The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour is coming to Fernie, Cranbrook and Invermere in January.
The Banff Film Festival’s outreach program began in 1986 when Banff’s festival organizers wanted to share the efforts and talents of the world’s finest mountain filmmakers with a larger audience. With visits to three cities that first year, the Festival Tour has grown to the point where their films are now traveling the globe. Cities and towns in Canada, the US and 26 countries world-wide are hosting annual events and audiences who love the outdoors, the mountains and first-class filming are enjoying their presentations.
In each location, the hosts select a film which their particular local audience would most appreciate. Many of these are winners of prestigious awards. The music in the films and also in the video above, is the inspiring creation of brilliant French-born Canadian artist Jacques Blackstone who was commissioned in the late 1990’s to write a theme for the festival. You can listen to samples of his music at http://www.purplesoundmusic.com/d24.htm
A portion of the proceeds from each event goes to a selected local recipient
A representative of Wildsight in Cranbrook told Columbia Valley News that this annual event has been the highlight of each of the more than 10 years they have been hosting it. She said that it usually sells out and recommends that people get their tickets early.
