Government releases public-sector compensation reports.
For the third consecutive year, the province has released reports detailing the major elements of compensation for its top-ranking, top-paid public-sector executives in British Columbia.
A recent media release states, “The reports ensure that public sector compensation reporting continues to meet standards for disclosure and provide the public with background about the compensation philosophy of the organization and how it relates to performance”.
Since 2008, the Public Sector Employers Act (PSEA) requires public sector organizations to disclose the major elements of compensation, including base salaries, benefits (including taxable benefits), employer pension contributions and performance payments. These requirements apply to CEOs and the next four highest-ranking paid executives where these positions hold an annual base salary of $125,000 or more.
The province says it is a leader in best practices in Canada with standards of reporting that require annual public disclosures of total compensation for executives.
Each organization must publicly post compensation information on its website but we thought our readers might like to sneak a peek at how much ‘bacon’ some of our CEOs are bringing home these days. We have reported the 2009-2010 salaries where available and in a couple of instances could only report last year’s income.
