From the S/Sgt’s Desk –
Many years ago while working in Maple Ridge, the police got to know a lady who had some issues. She covered her walls with tin foil and made a tin foil hat. This was to protect her from the beam of rays pointed at her house and brain. She was a harmless lady, never caused problems, and when she got off her meds we would get involved and ensured she got back on them or we would contact her doctor and things would be taken care of.
It so happened this one particular evening that two junior members got called to her house. They had never dealt with this lady or heard of her. I was aware of the call but not in the immediate area. It took me awhile to get there to see how things were going.
When I get there all I can see is the members very frustrated trying to convince this lady that no one was seated in the empty chair that she kept pointing at and telling the officers to take this person away. I stood back and watched to see how the members were going to deal with this. They probably never taught this in Regina.
The officers attempted to get her closer to the chair and pointed, “see, there is nobody there.” She refused to get close and continued to demand that the person be arrested and taken out of the house. The chances of convincing this lady that no one is there are the same chance as convincing a golfer that golf is not a sport. It Ain’t going to happen.
So, I walk up to the chair, make like I’m grabbing the shoulder, have a little scuffle and start escorting the fellow out the door. As I get to the door the lady shouts “he’s running on you.” No problem the boys will get him.
I tell the two more athletic officers to go get him. All I got was a worried stare from them. They began to walk out the door. “Go run, really.” The lady was happy, thanked me and we were on our way.

S/SGT Marko Shehovac,
I enjoy your stories. I have a friend who spent many years with the RCMP and he still keeps us in stitches with his stories of peace keeping while on duty in Saskatchewan. You should write a book.
